The conflicts of the modern world. A competitive society |
David Guchua Form 11 ‘A’ Ja uary 17, 1999 HE CO FLIC S OF HE MODER WORLD. A COMPE I IVE SOCIE Y. He, who comma ds he pas , co rols he fu ure, He, who co rols he fu ure, co quers he pas . -KA E- I his composi io I would like o discuss he co flic s of he moder world a d he co seque ces of he compe i ive socie y. Bei g asked abou his I usually s ar wi h a compe i ive socie y. Because his is he hi g we face i every day life a d always ask o e ques io ourselves: ’Why have we crea ed he world full of roubles a d problems whereas we ourselves live i i ?’ his sou ds really paradoxical bu i is rue. For i s a ce, he axes i our cou ry bri g so ma y roubles o people who wa o s ar heir ow busi ess ha hey simply have o fi d ways o o pay hem. housa ds of examples all over he world ca be give here bu he idea is ha , u ders a di g all his, we do o ry eve o improve a y hi g. O he o her ha d compe i ive life exis s eve a school where pupils are o par icipa e i a so-called ‘raci g game’ which is based o gai i g be er marks a d resul s i every hi g. his idea is o ew ha is why differe people a differe imes ried o solve his problem. he mos famous is he of abou social equali y. he idea of social equali y is really silly, o my mi d, because here will always be o e who will hi k ha he is be er ha he o hers a d jus o ly due o his we will o ever ge equali y. O he co rary, if here is o compe i ive socie y here is o developme . I is of o use of aspiri g o he bes . o hi g bu a compe i ive socie y made a ma make a fligh o space. Besides, here were a lo of o her discoveries, which improved he life a d social co di io s, which happe ed o ly due o compe i ive socie y. I believe, ha here exis s o ly o e solu io . I is esessary o develop he compe i ive socie y limi ed wi h a s ric law. Because we do o realize ha his compe i ive socie y reflec s Darwi ’s heory abou survival bu o a higher level. Moreover, we do o realize ha he las level of such developme is a war. From my poi of view, he problem of a war is he mos urge problem owadays due o he i ve io of ew high ech ological weapo s a d weapo s of mass des ruc io . I is ex remely impor a o bear i mi d ha he o ly horrible hi g, which will ever happe , is he hird world war. Wars are cou erproduc ive a d useless. A war has o expla a io . Bu why do wars s ar ? Accordi g o his ory wars ca s ar because of he erri ory divisio , problems of religio , e vy, misu ders a di g be wee diploma s. However, here are ma y o her reaso s why a war s ar s. he mai idea is ha people do o usually u ders a d he causes of war a d do o u ders a d i s reaso s because poli icia s usually decide wea her he war should s ar or o . Bu le us pass over o he his ory of wars. he mai idea is ha he firs housa d male huma bei gs were ever ga hered oge her, hey belo ged o a army, a d large-scale slaugh er of people happe ed soo af erwards. Moreover, he firs army carried such weapo s as spears, k ives, axes, perhaps bows a d arrows a d i s s re g h did o lie i mere members bu i discipli e a d orga isa io .
I addi io , drill is wha ra sforms a mob of i dividual figh ers i o a army. herefore, he basic forms of mili ary drill are amo g he mos u cha gi g eleme s of huma civilisa io . hough every ma died his ow dea h, wha happe ed was qui e imperso al duri g he ba le of well-drilled armies. he resul is ha housa ds of me would die i half a hour, i a area o bigger ha a couple of wo foo ball fields. Co seque ly, a ques io immedia ely comes o mi d: ‘How could me do his?’ he reaso is ha a forma io of drilled me has a differe psychology, which e ds o overpower he perso al ide i y a d fears of he i dividuals. I co clusio , people will kill if hey fi d hemselves i a si ua io where heir ow survival is hrea e ed a d due o his a ybody ca be persuaded a d ma ipula ed i his way. Bu he war has cha ged hrough he ages i some ways. Firs , he reaso s of war somehow differ. Besides, he scale of wars has cha ged. I addi io he ech ology has grea ly cha ged a d ple y of ew weapo s have appeared. Bu war has o cha ged i o e hi g. I is sufferi g i bri gs. If you wa my opi io he I am sure ha I will ever figh i a war if I do o u ders a d he reaso s a d aims of his war. he o ly hi g I will figh for is my family. Maybe, you are surprised because I have ’ said ‘mo herla d’ bu I will o figh for my mo herla d if I fi d i ’s poli ically wro g or o sui able for me. Besides, wha really irri a es me is ha a lo of impor a fac s are eglec ed i our his ory books a d, readi g hem, you ge he impressio ha he Seco d World War for i s a ce was o hi g bu a se of da es a d ba les. his makes he you ger ge era io misu ders a d he reali y of war a d u ders a d i hough lessly. Fi ally, le ’s hope ha here will ever ever happe a y war a d here will be he ime whe people will u ders a d all he useless ess of war. 912 words.
Thus we see that incest had always been a part of the human sexual condition However, incest has never been a universal taboo, neither in ancient societies, nor in the modern world. Only recently has the interest of the scientists been directed toward this ancient problem, and sexologists are presently attempting to determine the real and measurable effects of incest on the contemporary world, without regard to the biases of ancient societies which obviously attempted to expand their strength and influence through marriage outside the tribe or family. Many psychotherapists, including myself, believe that the effects of actual incest involving a child are not so disastrous as are the effects of a parent's seductive attitudes toward that child that never culminates in any manifest sexual activity. One theory is that the problem of unconscious incestuous desire may well underlie all cases of neuroses and psychoses, and that actual incest will not have such a deleterious effect upon the child since parental approval of the behavior is implicit
